Maduganga, the mangrove area in Galle District, is situated in Balapitiya. It opens to the Indian Ocean near the bridge. It is a shallow water body and declared as a wetland in Yrae 2003. Together with the small lake "Randombe", it forms the Maduganga wet lands. The many mangrove islets create a complex coastal wetland ecosystem.
The higher ecologial, biological and asthetical significance, being home to 300 species and large number of birds, plants, fune and flora.
The tourist hotel Maduganga Villa is inside of the mangrove.
